OK i have a couple questions, I am about to buy my first SLR,and i am somewhat confused about lenses. I somewhat get the f/stops, aperature, and i somewhat get that a 18-55mm lense is a standard lense but i don't know what the 18-55 means.

By the way, i think im getting a Rebel XT.

Thanks, Andrew

18-55 is the focal length, and in your case range. 18-55 isn't really considered standard length lens. Standard is usually something starting in 24, 28 and ending any where before 150.

if the rebel xt is digital then 18 to whatever is standard. If the rebel xt is film then it should be more like 28 to whatever. There you go.

And just because I'm a hopeless consumer loser, check out the Nikon N80 its inexpensive and it rocks. Its what I use and I love it. Learned on it and then when I got good I didn't out grow it.
