Phones That Don't Smash To Pieces?

My old Galaxy S2 LTE is coming up to the end of it's contract. The camera lens is pretty scratched up and battery life sucks, but credit where it's due, it's been pretty solid despite dropping it a number of times and in no cover.

Conversely, my wife has an S4 and it sucketh thee balls. The screen is a disaster (yep, smashed to pieces) and in general it's unreliable despite not being very old. I was going to just go with an S5 but this S4 is putting me off a bit.

Anything else worth considering for a hardcore outsider (I can ride Bobsled in under 8 minutes)? So no cracking screens, a decent camera, GPS, easy drag and drop music transfer (so no iPhones…..) etc? Not too bothered about a million apps, Candy Crush, whatever… :)

Yes, I'll probably have to get a case again but the Otter Box that I had for a short while was stupidly bulky so chucked it away.

I have a Samsung S4, hasn't cracked, but then again I haven't dropped it. For work they gave us the Samsung Rugby which is supposed to be much more drop proof and splashproof, that might fit the bill.

I have a HTC One that is 1.5 years old. Really like it. I'm sure the newer model is great. I avoided using an Otterbox and throw it in a Pelican case when I am riding. I think it is probably safer than the Otterbox and the rest of the time I do my best not to drop it though I have.

I have an iphone 4 that is over four years old. I have a non-bulky cnc machined case and a protective film over the screen that is a 1mm thick slab of plexiglass or something.

In the four years I've owned it I've dropped it down stairs, rammed the corners of numerous desks directly into the screen while it was in my pocket, and had it fall out of my hands while cycling to be run over by other bicycles.

It is still perfect as the day I bought it, a little less battery life, that's it.

Samsung s5 Active. In an otter box case. The phone its self is water proof up to 3 feet, super rugged, and just as fast as the normal s5. Oh and I can get 2 days out of the battery and that's with making calls and checking Facebook every chance I get.

My S4 turned itself off on a cold hike so not that.

Then again they are free right now and it's flawless otherwise.

get a good case and any phone should last.

the Lifeproof case on my iPhone has done a great job keeping the phone intact. I've dropped it, stepped on it, used it in sleet, snow and rain etc.

The only downside to the iPhone is battery life - for the first two years it would hold a charge all day/every day in all conditions..now in the 3rd year it's starting to act a bit funky..

The S5 has been bulked up, and the S5 Active much more so. Get a tempered glass screen protector if you don't go the Otter Box route. They're supposed to break before the screen. Real world testing (not by me) seems to confirm depending how it's dropped. That, and they feel awesome, just like the regular screen.

I second trail worker, get a good case. I have never smashed a phone and I am a klutz, so you probably need a little help.
