VPN:

  • Will protect you from companies like your ISP or 'busted' public hotspots from snooping on all the sites you visit on the internet
  • Free VPN means the VPN host is paying money for you to surf the web, and the people hosting the VPN can see all that you are doing if they are so inclined
  • You can get logless, IP sharing VPN's that are the ideal situation, and many advertise this feature, but there's really no way of confirming
  • There is zero doubt in my head that nation-states own all traffic anywhere so if you plan on assassinating a major figurehead, don't rely on VPN
  • Will not protect you from poor internet hygiene, ie: Installing hot-porn.exe or going to www.freesexyladieswhowanttomeetme.com
  • The bigger VPN companies will have exit gateways all over the globe which is handy for a variety of reasons

I use privateinternetaccess.

For browsing I use uBlock and NoScript.  The latter requires a lot of work but it is so worth it.

I use Express VPN which is logless (so they say).  It is very easy to use, has a Canadian gateway.   For passwords I use True Key but I am looking to switch because I hate McAfee and I just ended up there when they bought out the one I was already using.  I will pay a bit for one because I manage way too many accounts to keep up to them any other way.

I use the free version of LastPass for passwords...works great in Chrome and on my phone.  I have Windscribe Pro VPN on my torrent / Usenet computer... easy to set up, lots of servers around the world if there a geo-blocked site you want to get to, and they are a Canadian company.

Used to use private internet access. Then it got annoying due to Netflix streaming issues or something I forget. But i ditched it.  Still download the fuck out of stuff and no boogie men have knocked on my door yet

no dashlane users?  much as i'd rather not, i'm getting the sense that if you want the top notch services and functionality one may actually have to pay for some internet related stuff..  sigh...

We use Dashlane at work. It seems good. We have a lot of sites that use a "company login" and the administrator was able to set it up so we didn't have to do anything. It does a pretty good job at tracking and storing login info to basically every site we use. No complaints.
