i figured it out. notice how some gifts appear on the chart multiple times. When you subract the number added to gether from the original it has a limited number of answers.

Let's break that down.

Pick a number…….. you chose ab.

ab = 10 X a + b

insert into our equation above:

(10a + b) - a - b
= 9a

So, the sum is always a multiple of 9.

(channeling CraigH) And the fact that the gift changes each time is hardly mysterious. The page is just programmed to randomize each time it is started. Whatever gift falls on 9 is repeated on each multiple of 9 and then that is what Robin chooses. Big whoop.
