I'm I the only one who thinks this whole thing is going a little far? I get it, they're young spoiled rich kids driving in cars that I car nut like me could only dream about owning but at the end of the day they are kids. Spoiled rich kids or not.
We did some stupid stuff in cars when we were young. Street racing was dumb and dangerous but we did it anyway and at much faster speeds than what they were caught doing. The fast cars of my day were supercharged 5.0L's and Camaro's and topped out at $15,000 and 450HP. Then we got into sportbikes and things really got scary. It was stupid and dangerous and I FULLY understand that now (even then but with much less fear).
I just get the sense that most of this anger has to do with jealousy and anger towards these spoiled rich kids than it has to do with stupid teenagers speeding where they shouldn't.
Flame away.
I had a 72' rx3 station wagon that hit 120++MPH like nothing. I drove that fast all the
time. I got a few tickets for 60mph in a 40 and such, and got stopped doing 121mph on
the 405 by a sheriff…he let me go. Someone mentioned weaving in and out of traffic, that
is more dangerous imo than just going fast. California thought so and CHP will bust you
every time they see you doing "excessive lane changes", but 90mph in a 60 on the highway
they won't even bat an eyelash.
the only reason people are pissed is because these kids are rich and spoiled and we know
they are in all likelihood spoiled brats. If they were driving 72 camaros at 200kph it
wouldn't have made headline news and the level of BS wouldn't be so high.
I thought the police said it was 2000 km/h in a space ship no less.
I heard they were driving so fast they were floating over the road. Going by some "eyewitness"
saying they were doing 200k is stupid. What did they get clocked doing on the radar?
Most people can't tell the difference when standing on the sidewalk between a loud car
wound up doing 120 or 200, they're both fast and if they "sound" fast it'll give the
impression of them going faster.
Give them a fine based on THE FACTS, give their cars back, and try and catch them next time.
