from the cbc, this was premeditated for sure, using a large crowd as a way to hide and incite damage…..

He said many of the instigators appear to be the same people arrested during the pre-Olympic demonstrations and many came equipped with goggles, gasoline and other tools to create damage.

"If someone wanted to create a telegenic image for riot footage, they would have had a tough time choosing a better spot to do it and, according to a Facebook post I saw, that was exactly what someone did. "CTV News talked to a friend of the guy who lit the first truck. It was his truck. He planned to burn it if the Canucks lost." My friend Georgia Miller said that when she was boarding the Skytrain at the Commercial station to go to the game she heard a guy in a Canucks jersey who looked to be 20 or so turn to another Canuck-clad pal and say, ?"I swear, if the Canucks lose, I'm coming home with a new TV and some Gucci." Before the game she assumed he was kidding, after the game… it's hard not to think of The Bay."

property damage i could give 2 shits about

um, ok.

i guess i'm wishywashy on it; obviously some people need to be flushed out and charged, but opening it up to the masses seems dangerous to me

why? do something stupid in public, end up on the internet, it is 2011

i mean this guy is on that rioter website:

why?

really, you are asking why that guy inciting a riot in on the rioter website? you are actually asking that, for real?

this space is intentionally blank, other than this note about it being blank.

There is plenty of footage floating around. I've seen other shots where that same guy is helping roll a car onto it's roof. So there is at the very least a property damage charge against him.

why, because a bunch of chumps "like" the idea of pitching in to clean things up - if enough people click on the button, does something happen?

You're awesome!

Really!

It's an event - and there's a picture of people on the streets doing some clean-up.

Not too Facebook savvy I guess…

The dude on the car might not have read his criminal code lately but for the assembled masses here is a little taste:

Riot

63. (1) An unlawful assembly is an assembly of three or more persons who, with intent to carry out any common purpose, assemble in such a manner or so conduct themselves when they are assembled as to cause persons in the neighbourhood of the assembly to fear, on reasonable grounds, that they

(a) will disturb the peace tumultuously; or

(b) will by that assembly needlessly and without reasonable cause provoke other persons to disturb the peace tumultuously.

Lawful assembly becoming unlawful

(2) Persons who are lawfully assembled may become an unlawful assembly if they conduct themselves with a common purpose in a manner that would have made the assembly unlawful if they had assembled in that manner for that purpose.

Riot

64. A riot is an unlawful assembly that has begun to disturb the peace tumultuously.

Punishment of rioter

65. Every one who takes part in a riot is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years.

Looks like what happened in Van yesterday might have been a riot as defined. Dude may be a rioter. Dude and many like him pissed off a great deal of folks who may want him punished to the fullest extent of the law (or to some further extent who knows) ergo - his face is on display participating in a riot.

But don't take my word for it I am just a cartoon lawyer
