fixed it with motion control shoes …which fly in the face of the current minimalist craze

PF occurs regardless of foot wear. And what you say actually goes against the scientific research that says other wise.

then just google it

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plantar_fasciitis

IME PF is the next level after strained achilles

you probably don't want to use wiki to write a paper but for explaining stuff to people who don't know what you are talking about anyhow … its fine

I'm certainly not a doctor. I don't even know what the hell "PF" is!?

It's all about fun.

Injuries always occur from whatever be it skiing/biking/running or even dragging groceries across a checkout scanner

and the injuries from minimalist running could be other than PF ,I think perhaps an MC shoe helped me with my stride ,got me up on the balls of the feet instead of heel striking which seemed to be a bad thing for a person with flat feet ?

in any case no reoccurance of PF for [HTML_REMOVED] 6yrs , I have gone back to a neutral shoe and I have a greater aware of my stride

It is possible to develop PF on it's own. I did it a coulple of times. Real fucking fun.

If you take a close look at the foot. The heel is narrow and very little padding, not ideal for taking heavy impacts or multiple one's. And if you think about it would you rather have a small narrow impact area that will not spread out the impact and instead transfer it else where. Or land more towards the ball where there is a fat pad to cushion and a nice wide surface to better absorb the impacts.

Next observation, when running by land on the heel is kind of like slamming on the brakes. Plus all that force gets transfered up the legs into the back as well.

DO NOT HARDEN THE FUCK UP.

Your trip is over, or postponed for a while. I went the HTFU route a couple years ago and ended up tearing it. 6 months of physio, next to no cardio exercise and 15 lbs later I was wishing I had just taken it easy.

Now that being said does it hurt above your heel bone or on your heel bone? If it hurts on the bone than it could be an inf inflamed bursa, which its a big deal.

It did hurt above the heel bone but it feels pretty good now. Almost 100%. Like I said the next city is less than 60 kms
So I'm gonna keep going and see how my body takes it. I won't push through any tremendous pain.

Do gears make it so you don't have to pedal? If not how exactly are they supposed to help with this?

Well I tried to ride to the next place and as much as I hate to agree with jetta douche (he has a history of spoiling other people's fun) I have no choice but to drop out of tour de china 2011. Maybe I'll try again next year with more training beforehand. Nothing is worth risking an Achilles tear methinks.

I'm seriously bummed out right now. :(

Make sure to take it easy for a while. Stuff like this takes a long time to heal.

Just a thought.. where you being to ambitious with this huge plan? Did you do a couple of week long trips prior to test stuff out? Any equipment changes prior to trip..gearing, pedals?

You said you have already applied ice pack on it? It should be done when there's swelling. But when the swelling subsided and there's no inflammation, you should use heat therapy or hot compress. It will relieve chronic pain and muscle tightness. It will also help increase blood flow to the area and can boost the flexibility of the muscles and connective tissue surrounding the joints, thus minimizing stiffness and pain, and preparing the muscles to work more efficiently. You also have to rest for a few days.

The human foot did not evolve to heel strike. If it did for example Asics would not have to add over an inch of cushioning to the average running shoe.
