Google recommends a few searches when I look for why they are cheaper, including "why are Quebec drivers so bad?" but I imagine it's the road salt they deal with a lot of the year.

It sounds like I'll have more room to negotiate than I thought. I've read that dealers will put a 20% markup on used cars, generally. So maybe I can negotiate their profit down a bit. The car's been sitting on their lot for three months, and the colour, 2WD and 1-generation old body style could help my case.

I wouldn't touch a car that lived east of the Monashees unless it was under 5yrs old. Rust, rust, and more rust. Not outward facing, but every bolt underneath will become a problem if it isn't already one.

Go in, make your offer, walk out. Last time I did this (only time, really), after 20 seconds the sales guy came running out of the office after me, intercepted me at my car, and accepted my offer. This was at a used lot, offered about $3K less on a $20K-ish listed car. YMMV but you won't know till you try.

Little old man driven

Intact int., no rust straight body but haven't heard it run yet or know the kms.

Am I crazy to consider? Run away if it's the v6?

They wouldn't last in this neighbourhood anyhow.

Later that day…..

Huh. She said was low milage but 19,000kms?
Interior literally looks this good.

Well ok the floor mats are cruddy but next to no wear evident on pedals.
Everything works. Lower door hinge a little loose.
Blew a little blue at first then cleared up. Bed looks like there was never anything in it.
Clear is peeling on the side that sat in the sun.
Valve gaskets weeping, brakes almost put me through the windscreen, and, yeah, V6.
Which means probably the light duty tranny. Wonder what tow cap is.
Guess I'll need these…

Another forum guy said these trucks have aluminium wiring?

No aluminum wiring. The 3.9L is tough, it's literally a 318 with 2 cylinders lopped off. But it's an absolute gas guzzler. I owned one with a 5 speed.

Ok thanks, economy would've been its saving grace but if not I'd rather the grunt of a v8 plus I think those old v6's came mated to the light duty tranny.
The deal breaker is that I got no garage or yard to park it in and pull the plates while fucking around w/it.

5th and Lakewood anyone looking for an old truck. Everything works.

It's almost all coming together, part wise. I'll add some pictures when it all get its this side of the border.

Only waiting on the full race pro stock tubular exhaust mani and pcv vent plate. Which will complete the following:

Corksport Turbo: https://corksport.com/<wbr>mazdaspeed-3-turbo-upgrade.<wbr>html

FUll Race PCV vent plate: https://www.full-race.com/<wbr>store/ecoboost/ecoboost-2-3l-<wbr>2-0l-catch-can-plate.html/

Damond Motorsports EGR Full Kit: https://damondmotorsports.com/<wbr>collections/mazdaspeed6-mazda-<wbr>mps6/products/egr-block-off

JBR 51r Battery Box: http://www.jamesbaroneracing.<wbr>com/shop/index.php?main_page=<wbr>product_info&cPath=333_338_<wbr>384_387&products_id=557

Well its all together other than a 51r battery, a tune and a random bolt for the egr plate relating to the high pressure fuel line. Exhaust wise, nothing just yet unless I'm not a fan of the sound. I might get it on an actual dyno just to see what the numbers are with my current parts. I'd like to think I'm realistically in the ballpark of 340hp/tq but who knows.  Other than MOPAC in the Langley, are there other dyno choice's? I'll be looking into the intake manifold , fmic and injectors next year sometime as by then, someone will have figured out ecoboost or duratec heads on an mzr and this dated platform can actually have proper fueling.

Thought I'd update the progress or lack there of on my upgrades. Before buying the exhaust mani, I took it in for a compression test and the numbers were less than ideal. If I'm not mistaken they ran in order @ 167, 165, 145, 173 out of a max 196psi. I explored my options for a local rebuild which is ridiculous in terms of cost and turn around time - anywhere from $7-12,000 and pretty much 9+ months in a shop or three. But I havent talked to ForceFed in Abbotsford yet. Recently parked it as the throttle body decided to go once the temps warmed up along with my battery. My battery is good if I drive it daily but its been roadside for a month now. I'm currently looking at either a short or long block in a "stage1 or 2" nature from http://www.speedperf6rmanc3.com/categories/built-engines/mazda-mzr-disi.html . The budget says stage1 but the want says 2.

And a pic of my current engine bay.

Wait, what do you get for 7-12 grand? A basic rebuild or full balance/blueprint racy, racy? I thought you could buy crate engines (572) from the big three for 12 grand? Or did I pick the wrong day to stop huffing lead based paint?
