Wait, what do you get for 7-12 grand? A basic rebuild or full balance/blueprint racy,racy? I thought you could buy crate engines (572) from the big three for 12 grand? Or did I pick the wrong day to stop huffing lead based paint?

it was hard to say what I might get in a local rebuild. I received the usual "depends on what the machine shop says my motor needs " verbal quote. you know if I want it bored out or not and stuff. I could go with a crate motor but not sure how much I'd need to change to make it fit. Perhaps I'll look into a duratec/ecoboost as there's some crossover with the mzr platform. But for that 12grand, I can get a new built drop in motor, jmf sheet metal intake mani, maybe secondary fueling and new shift forks. That's just off the top of my head without looking at the site. As for huffing lead paint, today would've been perfect, leave a can open in the garage and with the heat, insta hot boxo.

Just keeping this going. In Sept I picked up a new intake manifold which has been added to the pile of other parts to install. And much to my dismay, just after Halloween I was up on Cypress trying to enjoy that little bit of snow we had and I managed to blow a rear strut. So I have now coil overs (H&R), rear camber arms (moog) and new bushings for the aftermarket diff brace and mount. Doing the bushings because Ive had those two diff pieces on for around a 160-170,000km and the rear diff needs both sides re-sealed anyways so it makes sense. Im interested in seeing the shape of the worn bushing and the parts themselves. The company (SURE) apparently had some issue`s with their first run of bushings...

And my Speed6 is within 1,500km of 250,000km. Stock motor, orig turbo, trans and clutch. Intake valves never cleaned in a disi application... I know, so neglectful of me..

I got new leafs for my xterra from carrier sprinbotsford.

the old ones used to bottom out on every little thing, went from a 2 pack to a 4 pack and its a huge improvement.. also lifted it 2 inches. waiting on all new front a arms and steering linkage, then ill re index the front torsion bars to get the front 2 inches of lift.

That's hard on ball joints.

Turns out it wasnt a blown strut. ..

2 seized rear calipers, a cracked rotor and shot rear pads.

Hopefully the calipers make it in from Toronto in time otherwise no Christmas road trip(s).

Calipers should never seize if you service the brakes properly.

Given the time frame, I just had the shop order them from Mazda. I could pay less for the calipers from rockauto (probably) but having to overnight them and brokerage would negate the savings. Aaaaaand I cant get across the border to the drop box without my car so theres that too.

As for servicing my car.. sweet jeebus I'll take a pic of my stack of invoices from maintenance/upgrades. It IS a mountain. I've thought about inputting them into a spreadsheet but that's a lot of time. As for the calipers themselves, OEMs at 11 years and 250,000km, it was probably time. One oem rear strut lasted 105,000km. But I do have a zesty driving style ;)

Just to follow up on if the shop is/was shifty.. sort of leaning towards to they were. My air filter almost fell off after loosening it to remove it. There was a nut fastened hose coming off my tip going to the ebcs that was almost off. Nut was visibly unnutted while the connection was oily. This was after suspension work to re-iterate the wth'ness. I also seem to need a new front/upstream o2 sensor as my mileage is crap and I'm stalling while driving now. I wont say they did that but it couldve been knocked loose after one of three massive bottom outs I had before the shop re-adjusted the ride height of the coil overs. Still throwing lean codes and vacuum codes.  I emailed them about a loose ball joint a week ago with no reply yet.

A built motor is still in the plans.

If anyones thinking to put the summer wheels back on with this weather, there's a 50/50 chance 2009 will repeat itself. Thats where we got dumped on in late March.

As a follow up to the thread, it was my upsteam o2 sensor. Also turns out I dont need to relocate an o2 bung on the downpipe I have so that could've went on at the same time as the o2 sensor. Coulda been catless. Sigh.

So as far as cats go, since Airscare is gone, do I still need them on my truck if I put a new exhaust system in? Got a 1997 GMC with a V8, so if & when I put a new exhaust in, can I go cat-less?
