The North West Passage seems to be completely free of ice.

Well, we're building a new naval base and building 5 new arctic patrol boats, at the recent SPP meeting Bush claimed it was an international waterway and Harper stated it was Canada's intent to assert their sovereignty over the waters, so I'd say the rhetoric's pretty warm already.

Hot summer my ass. I was in Yukon, albeit not at Northwest Passage latitudes for the duration of the summer and its been a freaking wet and cold summer.

I wouldn't consider any of that rhetoric. I think our sovereignty is in question. This should br a way bigger issue to Canadians than it currently is.
