I'm interested in an 05-07 Nissan Xterra. Does anyone have any first hand experience with these? They seem like a good option for some off-road adventuring. The 6-speed manual is also very appealing.

Poor gas mileage isn't a huge concern as I don't have to commute.

Any other issues that I should be wary of?

Thanks!

I've got an 02 and I love it. Don't get the auto from that vintage they've had transmission cooler issues in that year range. But you want stick anyways. They are real finicky with aftermarket parts get oem replacements and you'll be good.

Ha Ha! Made you look.

Check your rockers, if they are still clean consider rust preventing measures. At least all the 1st gens I've seen are pretty bad.

The fleet mechanic we use does work on them time to time. he hates them with capital H.
The transmission has some serious design flaws. He warned me off in big way. They are very expensive to fix trannies as some part like control chip can only be bought as part of a bigger part for close to 1000$.
Cool trucks though I like the bumper on the pic:)

Timing chain/tensioner/guide issues on 05-06 4.0L engines, and trans cooler issues. I have an 06 Frontier w/ 4.0L and auto, 220K and have hade no issues. Under sprung from factory so expect to be replacing leaf springs on a 10yr old vehicle.

Yea it's just a tranny cooler install bypass or aftermarket (the better way) and you're good to go.

I have an 08 Off-Road auto.

Tranny issues are related to the earlier auto versions. SMOD from shitty rad cooling design
Badly under sprung out back. Took slightly above 100k Km to snap both rear leaf springs. Very little if anything I've done could be considered wheeling. Does have aftermarket rear Shrockworks bumper and NSR-4 that likely contributed to the issue though.
Lug nuts are some weird pattern so aftermarket rims are difficult to acquire.
33s fit with almost zero mods
Mine throws codes like a mofo
Rear axle breather needs to be routed higher up on the truck
Aftermarket items likely need to come from USA as little support.
Same drivetrain parts as a Fronty

Is that the one you are considering?

Why slag free swag?

ummm, as your doctor i recommend against riding with a scaphoid fracture.
