We can finally watch our favourite NHL teams play again.

Have to wonder what this lockout did to the teams in the less traditional southern US markets though.

woohoo, can't wait!

Hockey is just a show on tv. It wasn't on, now it is. I don't hold a huge emotional investment in it one way or the other. It just entertains me.

I'm actually kind of surprised the players are getting a DB pension plan. If I were an owner I might just hold out on that single issue. DB plans are super ex$pen$ive for the employers.

everybody got their fix from football or b-ball or rollerderby or sft so the game or more correctly the business has lost market share but in realtime the sports bars lost $, the people who work the arena's lost $, the players lost $$$, the owners lost $$$and who cares … lots of people lost money

I never lost any money, I might watch stans cup if there is nothing better to do

The details of the deal have not been announced, but a source tells the Canadian Press that the agreement includes a seven-year contract term limit for free agents, eight years for players re-signing with the same team. The deal also includes a 35 per cent yearly variance in salary and no more than 50 per cent difference between any two seasons.

It also includes defined benefit pension plans for the players as well as a $64.3-million salary cap in 2013-14 – addressing two key sticking points in the negotiations.

DB pension plans are still relatively common in unionized environments and in executive pay packages. Most other salaried workers in NA will get some form of company administers DC plan, often with some form of company matching contribution. Much cheaper and more predictable costs to the company.

I really could care less, but I feel happy for Gran Torino - he only has to watch 50 games of his Alberta teams sucking.

So you care at least a little bit.

I care because the Vancouver Canucks are clients of mine and I need them to keep paying their bill

Thanks Ian

Hopefully only one of Alberta's teams will suck this year. Time for Eberle et al to start winning…
