So I am moving in December to one of the two, which is the better bet? I am looking to ride a lot of downhill in either one. Anyone know the best places in each country to live in for DH?

New Zealand for the winters (boarding/skiing).

Both have so much to offer. Australia is great because you can get somewhere warm when you need to but NZ is like a condensed BC with the nicest people in the world.
Tough choice, any chance you could do both?

north or south island NZ? been to both NZ and australia, didn't get to ride there but the south island of NZ would be my choice for sure. The people there are incredibly nice, and if you love BC then you will really enjoy it there. Although I would probably head to the east coast of aus just for the insane amount of bikinis everywhere. tough one

I'm a Vancouverite living in Brisbane. NZ is totally like a condensed BC. Mountains are smaller but the surfing is way better. Everything is super accessible. You could take a campervan (check www.standbyrelocations.com) with bike, ski and surf gear and do all three in a day no problem.

Auz is hotter and enormous, but not much in the way of riding. Some parts have some decent shuttling and a bit of gnar, but nothing even remotely like BC. i.e. After my initial explorations I haven't bothered. Too much work for too little payoff. Especially when surfing's so much better. The riding around Brisbane is flat and ultra-buff, think rigid singlespeed 29er. Lots of roadies here.

If you need real career work then Auz is the place. NZ is not the place to make a serious living unless you can bring your work with you. There are more kiwis in Australia than in NZ for a reason.

*edit: Go to NZ.

whoa, im trying to decide between the two to work/travel/shoot/explore over an undecided amount of time starting next summer. Leaning towards NZ. just seems like a super sureal place, and good boarding!

Just because I like boys doesn't mean I want to go out with Mike.

for a real kiwi/aussie experience, I think you're going to have to move to whistler.
