New Washing Machine, and Dryer.

So my washing machine has started to leave clothes smelling a little bit, and with the limited internet searches I've done the grand consensus seems to be it may be times for new ones. One thing is mine must be stacking, and about 30" wide in my laundry room. Since there are many other condo/apartment dwellers on here I'm wondering what I should buy, and where I should go to buy it. I'm not familiar with all the new technologies out there, but I wear collared shirts most days. So if there is technology out there to cut down on ironing that would be sweet.

If it's a front loader,there a cleaning tablets you can buy in the detergent section to clean the washer. Do it every couple of weeks.

A little bit of water and soap stays in the washer and causes the musty smell.

with front loaders you need to leave the door open a bit after the wash, shutting the door all the way allows mold to build up. give the machine a clean like this:

same advice as above: make sure your washer is actually clean and keep the moisture levels in it as low as possible (remove wet clothes promptly and leave door open):

also, what they don't mention in the above link: make sure to properly clean the fold in the rubber seal around the door: there's a scary amount of gunk that can accumulate in there if the user doesn't clean it…

I'm by no means an expert, but I've had experience with a condo sized top load and a condo sized front load, and I prefer the top load. The front load (high efficiency) took about 3 hours to wash a load, and it's capacity was a lot smaller than the top load. I don't know how much of that is brand-specific, but that was my experience.

Having said that, I find it surprising that smelly clothes = time for a new washer. Before buying new machines, I'd experiemnt with more/less/different detergent, try loading less clothes at a time, look into your water lines to see if there's something funky going on, etc…

I got a top loading Kenmore stackable that came with the house and it seems to work fine, IME Kenmore anything is usually a good thing in small town canada cuz of the service, I would try asking at an appliance repair/parts store and maybe googling problems on your brand/model

IME washers [HTML_REMOVED] dryer are pretty fucking easy to fix so if you can wrench your own bike or car or if you wrench anything for a living you should be able to fix your own washer [HTML_REMOVED] dryer if not … turn in your man card

We have front load washer. Washing time is from 28 mins (Quick) to 90 mins (Heavy Duty).

Can't leave the door open after washing because of it's location which is suggested in the manual as well.

Every month or so we run it with a couple white towels and extra bleach in "Clean Washer" mode which runs for about 90 minutes with hot water and it works great.

and after that doesn't work, clean out the drum and plumbing.

Worked for me. In fact I only had to move in with her.

Before we lived together I would through shirts in the dryer for a few minutes then I would take them out and let them air dry. Could wear most shirts without ironing.
