Do not get a Subaru. As my mechanic friend said "everyone has a story about why they love their Subaru, and they tell me the story ever time they have to come in and spend $2k on repairs". He told me he just nods and smiles; it keeps him in work.
Say what?
everything on the Subaru is well built and well designed for servicing. since 2005 it's been better - example - pre 2005 it was 2 hrs a side for rear wheel bearing replacement. Now it's 4 bolts and 30 minutes a side to replace a hub.
I've been running my Legacy wagon for 3 years now with nothing more than standard maintenance.
Find an 08/09 Outback 5 speed and you'll be happy for years to come. Stay with the 2.5l non turbo.
