Have the S5 active for the last 2 years, Bought it when the S6 came out. So it was not a premium price.
Have beat the shit out of it and it works great. Still to scared to submerge it in water tho.
IMO opinion buying the latest and greatest in iphone or Galaxy is a chump move. Although I sit in front of a computer screen 75% of the time at work and besides:

Trail Maps/google maps
Email
texting
internet access
watching netflix-porn
What else does one need in a phone?
I really don't know why the masses line up to buy the latest phone on release.

I was tired of phones basically just cropping the bed after two years. I also wanted something with some weather resistance without massive armoured cases. I use the phone as 80% of my office and it's always in my pocket - constant photos rain or shine for site visits and inspections and lots of trail forks and mapping use riding and skiing.
2 years ago I went the path less travelled and bought a Sony Xperia Z3. 2 years later it's still working ad new and battery life is still well over a full day of active use. Have fully submersed it several times. Simple soft thin polymer case with no screen protector. Completely satisfied with this phone and was even able to delete much of the proprietary software.
Was in Japan for work this year and these things were everywhere. They know.

the quarter before apple releases the new iphone each year. in the relevant quarters (when new) they are usually at 50%:
That looks more like sales for the quarter, and not market share. Otherwise there's a 50% swing in market share every year, and that would be very unusual.

The newer phones have a couple bells, and are faster, but that's about it. The technology increase curve on smartphones is flattening out.
The one thing the S5 and S7 has that I like is water resistance. I never worried about taking it out in wet conditions. The S5 has the removable battery, yet also has very good battery life and fast charging.

Market share is defined as percentage of sales over a given period. Not the same as installed base or units in use.
