Partial metering is not spot metering by any means.
No it isn't. But, for someone who is getting their first DSLR, it would be efficient.

Does the XTi have a histogram display? I have a Canon SD, and the histogram is only available for photographs that are already taken. Other cameras I've owned (Pentax, Olympus) show the histogram of what you are attempting to shoot, and that's sometimes useful.
It is easy to dodge our responsibilities, but we cannot dodge the consequences of dodging our responsibilities.

To my knowing…. it dosn't.
It does tell you when your shooting in M mode if you are over exposing your picture or underexposing it though and by how many stops depending on the metering mode you have it on.
the xt does now have spot metering, and its not very ergonomic
it has spot metering or partial or whatever you wanna call it.
It does not have point metering. frankly, in practice, the difference is minimal. you can get the same damn results if you're not a retard.

Point metering comes on the 1d and possibly the 40d is rumoured to have it.
btw.
Partial metering = 10%-15% of the frame
Spot Metering = 2% of the frame.
I think you should go with this camera, personally
I went to Leo's to pick one of these up but they were all sold out. Just my luck.

The D70s is selling for less this year, likely with the D80's introduction.
Nikon lists it at $1049, but it can be had for less.
