NEVER buy a Canon inkjet multifunction

Seriously, fuck Canon, fuck them with an unlubricated cactus, fuck them with Stephen Harper's dick.

Why?

This MP495 multifunction refuses to scan if it thinks there is a problem with either of the ink cartridges. Nevermind that the scanning mechanism is completely separate from the printing part.

I have tried multiple methods of resetting it and clearing the error, and am about ready to take this piece of shit out into the alley and break it into tiny pieces.

Epson and Brother are the way to go. Cartridges cost a little more to replace but they last for more prints. I hated selling Canon printers.

I don't even bother with printing by inkjet anymore, I bought a used HP Laserjet 4100 with 100BaseTX network interface and two 500-page paper trays, I just want this fucking thing to function as a USB scanner.

My Brother multifunction wouldn't scan when the ink ran out. I hardly ever print, but need to scan or send the odd fax. Pretty lame design.

Buy a standalone scanner. I have never had an all in one that worked the way it should. Bought a Brother printer and a Canon scanner and have had no issues. Its bullshit that you cannot scan with low ink.

My brother laser all in one dealy will scan without the toner cartage installed. Haven't used ink in ages though, doesn't sound like fun.

I have a MP830 multi. No problems with it BUT INK CARTRIDGES ARE A RIPOFF. Seriously considering junking the printer every time I run out of ink.

I may just buy a printer, run out of ink, but another printer, repeat.:S

Wow. My Canon MP240 works flawlessly! :dizzy: Scanning or printing!

Oh yeah, we got it for $20.00 when my wife bought a camera from Best Buy! :fruit:

Same here, I got an MP560 for $20 or $25 when I bought a new laptop a few years ago, and it works fine. Can't say I've ever tried to scan when it is out of ink.

The price of cartridges is insane though. I try and buy them in / from the US whenever I can to save a bit.

Even with refills inkjets are still a bad deal, a new (generic) toner cartridge for my laser printer can last up to 9000 pages and costs about $23 on eBay.

Let us know how much the new ink cartridges cost.
