For $2k Canadian I could build a system with a lot better CPU than a Core i7-2600 and a GTX560 video card…

More like a Core i7 3770 (Ivy Bridge) with a GTX680 2GB video card, 16GB RAM, really nice case, a good quality 850W 80+ PFC Gold rated power supply, etc.

Yup that's what I figured. For higher end stuff China is generally more expensive. Even when it comes to computers.

Is that price including two 23" LCD monitors though? ;)

So what would a build like mine cost in Canada?

To be honest I wouldn't be surprised if you guys could get the same stuff a little cheaper. Only knock off, shitty electronics are cheap here. Anything good seems to cost more than it would in a more developed country.

Depends on what you bought. Did you only buy the box and what's inside, or does that amount include the monitors and gaming devices? Also, what's the tax rate you paid?

I think you just haven't found the best local market for x86 PC stuff yet. China is awash in it, it's all manufactured there (except Intel CPUs, which come from diverse places like Costa Rica, Malaysia, Oregon, etc). Unlike the Apple products someone mentioned previously in the threads there's no artificial geographical restrictions on the products imposed by their manufacturers.

Yeah but just because stuff is made here doesn't make it cheaper. Apple products are assembled here but if they want to be sold locally they have to be re-imported which raises the price.

Like I said, stuff made here by local companies that doesn't get exported is hella cheap. The steering wheel accessory I bough works well and was like 20 bucks, but anything made in China for export will cost more than it will in the country it's being sent to.

Based on what I paid, adding the price of the two brand new monitors $2k sounds about right for here actually.

The price included assembly, the two monitors, a printer, the wheel and a half decent 5.1 speaker set

Did the conversion, and you paid $1650 CDN (before taxes). With your accessories, what you paid is probably the same or even less than what you would have paid here.

Depends on the 23" monitor…

Working only from Newegg (US), because it's convenient and fast, let's see what $2k buys. This is with a single 24" 1920x1200 Samsung display. I've always thought 1920x1080 is for TVs…

This is with both an Intel 520-series 120GB SSD for boot/OS and a 2TB 7200 rpm HGST drive for data.

Cool,

The place I bought all the stuff from is a 20 minute bike ride from my home and the shop belongs to my friend. I know he gave me the best price he could so I'm not too fussed about a couple hundred bucks here or there.

Oh Jenners how much fun I had with you once upon a time.

I usually stay well away from MMOs. But this one might be the one to bring me into that fold.
