Did you know Thundercat was in Suicidal Tendencies?  I never would have guessed.

Mike D had him on his show (Echo Chamber, great little show on Apple Music) and there was some wild punk/jazz/hip hop crossover going on in LA I never knew about.

I wandered across something really cool the other day that seems awfully familiar even though I'm not sure if I've heard of it before - maybe even on here somewhere. It's the story of a band that was punk before there was punk, the story of a band called Death. Most of the regulars here are in that age category where if we weren't there are the beginning of punk, we lived through a good chunk of it. Mind you, some people say that the seeds of punk were sown in the 50's, but that's a story for another day... So this band death made an album but got ignored, apparently cause the name Death was too much for the times of the 70's, or maybe because they were black and playing rock and roll. In 2009 the New York Times did a piece on them - https://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/15/arts/music/15rubi.html - and in 2013 Drafthouse films made a documentary of them. Sadly tho their lead singer had passed away. The doc is just over 90 minutes and worth a watch.

Their music is still highly relevant, like this track from that first album:
