Also, the new Black Francis album (a soundtrack for The Golem) is pretty good if you like guitar music.

haha funny when people listen to this stuff thinking they are much more knowledged in music and they are all cool in the indie scene, when all this shit is just as mainstream as britney spears.

i'm not saying you are like this but people who are, are funny

By no means am I suggesting I am somehow 'cool' because if what I listen to. However thinking a band like Wintersleep is 'mainstream' is incorrect. People may have heard of them, but ask them to hum a wintersleep song. This is probably one of the best bands in Canada right now and only one or two stations in my city ever (albeit seldom)play their music.

The same goes for Joel Plaskett. When you watched the movie 'One Week' did you immediately say "Holy Sh#t" it's Joel Plaskett? I bet most people totally missed him.

But back to my point, I want these bands to be mainstream. If Wintersleep was played as much as Nickleback, the radio would be a much better place. If you think they are mainstream, good, tell more people about them. We needs more good Canadian music.

(and True Patriot Love would have destryoed at the closing ceremonies)

Man, Wintersleep is pretty mainstream. And moderately okay.

ASG - win us over.

…and really who cares if a band is mainstream or not? As long as the music is good it does not really matter, does it?

Interesting that we are thinking in such categories.

Truth. Though, a lot of bands seem to get a bit worse when they reach that 'mainstream' part of their career.

And yet others get better. I'm no fan of the Tragically Hip, but ask any fan and they'll most likely say that their latest album is as good if not better than their first. Same with Blue Rodeo.

i've mentioned this guy before in nbr, but not sure how well-known he is outside alberta (and cbc radio 3 podcasts). corb lund (formerly of the smalls) is awesome. i don't listen to country except for this guy and stompin' tom. if anyone is into "pure" country, then check him out. his songs are so catchy and maybe living in calgary for the last while makes me appreciate the lyrics.

Just saw him on Feb. 14th here in Tofino. It's not really my style of music but it wasn't the usual surf/reggae/pop shit that this town gets.
