If my tax dollars go toward this I'm going to be mad. Give me a break…you die up there, you stay up there. That's a part of the deal. I guess if you're from Toronto you'd rather be brought back to the Centre of the Universe on the country's dime. I know if I perished up Everest I'd be glad to have my body up there as a reminder to the climbers that follow that "this shit is serious yo." Like that Calgarian guy in the fetal position.

but seriously the gov shouldnt throw anymore $ towards bringing a canadain citezens body than they would for someone who drowned in a pool at an all inclusive after drinking too many pina colada's

the pictures I have seen of everest summits this year are riduclous with 200 people summiting in one day, the reason she probably died was too many people slowing down the summit push, those companies will take anybody with 100,000$ its really just a very dangerous/expensive tour nowadays altho she DID train by walking around T.O. with a 20kg backpack

It's well known that Everest is an incredibly dangerous summit, going up there is a risk that shouldn't be taken lightly. If you fail it's on you. Why should we, the tax payers jump in to help out with anything?

The government doesn't pay to repatriate everybody who dies abroad… the whole point here is why should this woman be any different?

It is always unfortunate to hear of somebody dying, particularly doing something they love, but the idea of paying my hard-earned tax dollars to retrieve her body infuriates me. She chose to participate in an activity that currently approximately 1 in every 20 people who do, die. She mortgaged her house to raise $100,000 to go on the trip - if she could afford to do that, she could have afforded to make the unthinkable, but completely predictably necessary, arrangements for her affairs.

There are a whole bunch of people on that mtn that don't have the skills or conditioning but they got 100K

the mtn is still as dangerous as when it was 1st climbed but if you poke around at links on that page you can see HUGE crowds of climbers going for the summit much like a busy sunday on Stawamis Chief … its hard to feel sorry for anybody who trys to buy the summit of Everest

I'm pretty confident that she died of exposure/exhaustion not any sort of impact.

Here's a thought. Charge everyone a 'body recovery deposit' when you grant them the permit to climb. If they make it down, they can claim it back. If they dont, then it would be covered! Problem solved?
