is a bike that small enough for you?

Physically it is like a KTM 200XC-W with a linkage. Once I get it out for a proper ride I'll have a better feel for the power.

I am used to a bike with lots of bottom end power so it will take some adjusting but I'm looking forward to the challenge. Everybody I talked to loved the bike and said it pulls very well for a 125.

Nice. I would love to test ride one sometime. I have ridden a couple aluminum frame YZ125 built for the bush with big tank/flywheel weight and they were a blast.

I have always wanted to try a 125. Hopefully it works out well.

From my experience lots of revs and more clutching…using the clutch to moderate acceleration if that makes any sense, but I don't know what a modern one is like.

This bike is a total blast!

It feels so good through the twisty stuff and actually lugs down quite well. It will take practice to keep it in the revs on rocks or rough climbs though. The power delivery is very even with a good pull in the higher rpm range.

Looking forward to the next ride!

The power of the new 125's are surprisingly good. You just don't have the torque for a 2nd chance at a climb or obstacle. That being said your skills will improve vastly have to get it right the first time.

sounds like a blast. must feel super tossable to try certain moves with. like i'm not real comfortable trying pivot turns on my 285lb 390. what size rider to you reckon it's sprung for in stock form?

I posted this in another thread but thought I'd share it here too.

This is my Honda 2014 CRF250L purchased brand new 9 months ago for about $6K
Its my daily driver/commuter (rain or shine) and weekend getaway machine. I've put 14000km on it to date.
Best money I have ever spent.

Did the same with my DR when I got it . In three months I doubled the mileage the PO did in 5 years .

Yep, get it right or it's over. Although 1st gear is low enough that I've been able to lug up a few things I've stalled on.

I got out again today and cleared some stuff I had trouble on last time. So much fun!

It feels pretty good for me at 170lbs. I still need to set sag and make some adjustments but what I have done seems to be working.

Checking out the bike show on Saturday. I am really interested in the Ducati Diavel carbon. I took it for test ride last year and was very surprised, power of a superbike 162 hp, handles like a sport bike, great ergonomics, had the comfort of a cruiser.

I also want to check this bike out though I don't think I will like the rider position or passenger comfort for the girl. http://www.canada.ducati.com/bikes/diavel/x_diavel_s/index.do

I've got a nagging interest in getting a dirtbike. Havent ridden one since I was a kid, so not an experienced rider at all. My primary interest is burning around in the mountains on logging roads and easier to moderately difficult trail riding. Id prefer fast and smooth over slow and tech most of the time. Im curious what more experienced people would ride/recommend? I would likely be shopping for something second-hand, no more than 5 years old. Budget is not the main concern.

KTM 200, 250 or 300cc 2 stoke. XC or XC/W model with the XC/W being a bit better out of the box for trail riding. A YZ250 2 stroke that has been modded for woods riding would also be a good choice.
