Wayne, I put a gnarly on my 2005 YZ250 and I am super disappointed with it. You loose far too much top end power and your bike runs like shit until you put a Powernow valve in like this:
With the Power Now you regain a lot of throttle response. I'm running it.
The FMF SST pipe is the one to get.
Im on the MBR program.
2001 KTM 300 EXC. holy crap does it have some serious power. Flipped it once. went over the bars once and spun out and got stuck underneath it on day one. Its fun being a newb at a sport.

I'm back onto my dual sport bike for commuting after a pretty interesting ride on the operating table a couple months back. Hopefully onto my Montesa in a couple months riding the stuff we don;t talk about here ;-)

I live 30 min from the border so US trips are not out of the question.
Poops is, down here in 'Merka you need ORV tags to legally ride ORV trails, essentially off road licensing stickers. Go to any WA licensing office with your BC ownership papers and they'll sell you a week-long set of tags so you can ride legally here. Typically there's USFS rangers riding around on CRF250's and 450's patrolling all the ORV parks so tags and a sparky are mandatory items.
Have fun changing your first tire! Especially the rear.

Maybe it's personal preference. I like winding my bikes out. Now it kinda falls flat midway through your rpm range.

Be careful, the moto will make you park the mountain bike for a while and lurk heavy!!! Ton of fun.

in my super uneducated opinnion you can get a decent mx bike for 2-2500$ and then gear prolly for another 500 give or take.
not sure what bike id get a 2 stroke initially or a trail bike 4 stroke.
