Winters hangs off my every move like a pile of crap hanging off a dog's arse. Really, I could have bought an electric scooter and he would've loved it. For realz, I think he is happy that I finally got some money and made up my mind on what bike to buy. It only took 4-5 months!
I like 4 strokes and all, but I wanted to give this a try. Build myself up a potent race bike for hare scrambles and such. I've got a whole bunch of parts coming for it. Stoked!
Adam West, if the silencer looks really short, I bet its an FMF Shorty. Those things are immensely popular so I wouldn't be surprised if that's what it is. The Q Stealth is supposed to be quiet, but you should be able to find a stocker for cheap and it should work well too.

Still have the 2001 KX250. Just put a Gnarly pipe on it last week before we went up to Onion Lake in Lytton. Its been a great bike, i'm digging it.

Thumpertalk.com has all the answers. I guess there are a few schools of thought on the chain tension thing. Lots of people say 3 fingers behind the chain slider while the bike is sitting on its side stand (weighted). Others say every bike is different.
Over-tensioned will wear out your driveline quickly, and you risk wearing out your drive shaft bearing and seal. Under-tensioned will whip and could risk breaking the chain over time.
Try and find a manual - worth its weight in gold. Corey's right, about 3 fingers slack up from the bolt on the chain slider, obviously if its a KTM (sans linkage) then its different. Most of the Japanese bikes are close enough to each other though. Definitely better to be on the loose side rather than too tight.
End of July sounds good. I'll probably have my bike all set up by then. :P

2001 KTM 300 EXC. holy crap does it have some serious power. Flipped it once. went over the bars once and spun out and got stuck underneath it on day one. Its fun being a newb at a sport.
