Yea, I have a Carbon Fiber Works guard coming, an 11oz flywheel weight, and a TM Designs chain guide ('cause the stock ones are shit). I've got a tubeless kit coming too….I think.

Reciept signed by the seller?

Didn't do that when I bought my bike. Transaction was kinda like buying a mtb (heck, it was cheaper than most mtb's). Basically, checked out the bike, gave cash and took the bike home.

so lets say you wanted to get into sport and have lots of experience on regular bikes but haven't spent much time sitting on a motor. what would you start with and how much would the initial investment be. ballpark figure. thanks.

Yeah, 2-3k is about right and this is coming from someone who just went through the whole process.

$3K should get a you a relatively new 2 stroke. Shop around, there are a number of decent deals on craigslist. If money is not an issue, probably get a late model (2006+) 4 stroke. From what I have read, they are more beginner friendly due to smoother power curve.

I jumped on Rat's 300 2T and that thing scared the crap out of me. A small blip on the throttle, the bike just go.

If you are buying a thumper, make sure you know what's going on inside that engine. The last thing you want is to throw a valve. Even if you did the work yourself it would cost a lot of cash and time. The YZ-F's tend to be the most reliable with the 5 valve heads but be careful still. Super easy to ride though, almost like cheating.

Whatever.

I was stealing it from her purse.

that bike is a roach. Stay away from anything older than 2000.

Its worth the extra $500-1000 bucks.

Stick w the Yams if yer not a pro. Hondas are hard to ride. The early aluminum frames and all the way up the final CR 2-strokes had harsh rides.

I think its funny that I've been flying the 2-stroke flag forever and everyone is jumping ship.

You almost bought the perfect bike Wayne. I am looking for the 2004. If I can find one thats near new I will be stoked. The steel frame is better for the woods.

I had a tweaked out 2005 YZ250. I know how good they are.

For Shin I would reccomend a 2001-2009 YZ 125. Buy the bike based on the condition not the year. If its clapped out its clapped out. Check suspension linkages, wheel bearings….inspect the swingarm near the countershaft sprocket to see of the guide has been pooched and the metal fooked.

All the Yams seem to have good useable power and strong reliabilty.

I owned, 2001 YZ125, 2000 CR125, 2002 YZ 250, 2003 CR 250, 2004 CRf250, 2005 YZ 250, 2006 KXf250.

I have ridden most of the other bikes as well. All the bikes I listed I rode hard for a good period of time except for the 2004 Crf. Ask Cheryl from the Cafe she rode it more than me.

I like the Kawi the best, but maybe the 05' YZ as well for the overall when you add in the reliabilty and simplicity of the bike.

I always laughed at new 4-strokers that told me how much easier life was without having to deal with mixing gas…….

………just you wait buddy. It all starts with a real tired and sore right leg from kicking over the c*[HTML_REMOVED]ks%#@kers…….

ahhh but my Kawi started like a 2-stroke and have a look at the new 2010 CRF250!!!!!!!!

A FUEL INJECTED 250F!!!!!!!!! YAYAYAYYAYYAYAYYAYYAYAYYAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

put a 280 kit in that thing and seeeeee you later!………

A small reason why I bought this bike was because of the lil' evil Lerclerc on my shoulder saying "do it!"

That plus where else can you buy a brand new bike for this cheap? Granted it hasn't really changed in 4 years but who's counting. I've heard they're keeping them around for another 5 years due to the resurgence of YZ 2 stroke sales this year. Hopefully we'll see a major update.

I hate to say it, but even the new fuel injected RMZ 250 looks good. Jaysus.

The new (potentially) YZ450F looks pretty nutty, kinda like a Hussyberg. Rear tilted engine, electric start only, fuel injected, exhaust exited through the back, air filter where the tank now is, gas tank under the seat. Either its going to be amazing or a shit bucket. My guess is its going to feel really light.

I'm going to try out this 2 stroke thing for a few years and wait and see all the craziness that's coming down the pipe in the thumper world. If the economy in Cali picks up there will be lots of big changes coming through in terms of bike design.
