His whole defense is pretty hilarious and all pretty much hinges on this subtle admission of guilt.
Just a bunch of dummies who've watched too much Law and Order panicking, trying to concoct a story that they think makes sense.
They negotiated the hush payment down from $25M to $4.5M and were about to pay it before the NYT broke the story. Sounds legit!

Ya, I noticed that. He is obviously totally guilty. He doesn't deny anything, he is just trying to make it all sound super cool and super legal. I mean, don't most members of Congress travel with a high school student for sexual purposes?

this man is a literal piece of garbage - near as I can tell he has no redeeming qualities. Having said that, I have no idea if this stuff is true, but he has done himself no favours with his defence (17 year old woman??) and the fact he's let it be known for the past 40 (??) years that he is a piece of human trash
