pretty amazing

Yeah, it is pretty incredible what's been accomplished in a relatively short period of time. There's still a ton of work to be done though to get the highway fully reopened and back to what it was. It will be interesting to see how long that takes till  regular traffic is allowed back on the Coq.

Yes agreed. Also says in the link that the #1 will be open mid Jan. After the destruction I have seen along the Fraser canyon, that too is remarkable.

A lot of machine operators & drivers making huge coin. Good for them, gotta be shitty working around the clock out there in bad weather. I didn't know paving could be done when it's that cold. This is an incredible feat.

First lift can be done in colder or wetter conditions so long as the base has no frost in it. Top lift is another story. This obviously is temporary. They had to get one side open so they can start getting serious about the other. I doubt anything permanent will get rolling till after the depth of winter. Mostly demolition and excavation in preparation for new footings. Footing construction can be carried out with tenting and heaters. Hats off to the guys there though, that area isn’t the most hospitable to work in.

An acquaintance who has been involved in some of the rebuilding efforts says that one of the reasons this was able to happen so fast is that they skipped all the assessments/reviews/approvals that are usually needed for construction near a waterway, and just did whatever was needed to get it open safely.  Having the pipeline heavy equipment in some key places was definitely a lucky break.

Money talks, doesn't it? I bet shit tons of companies were pressuring Horgan to get that road open as they were losing lots of money. Looking at those pics makes me appreciate even more what those crews did to open the highway. It's odd to see workers paving while dressed so warmly. Usually you see them wearing t-shirts & sweating their asses off.

It's opening to regular traffic as of Jan 19th. Impressive!

Drove it last week. Overall really good, but the pot holes between Hope and Chilliwack are something else.

Drove from Kamloops to Langley to Kamloops this weekend. Except for 2 single lane sections at 50kmh it was a breeze. Potholes were being fixed as I drove by.
