I don't get the panic to fill up on gas for Vancouver people....where you going to go??? As 3S here pointed out the Interior can be stocked from points east, Vancouver and the S2S from points south. Pictures of Kamloops grocery stores completely empty just shows the worst of humanity.

It's not a panic, just more about pricing and short term supply constraints.

It's going to be a lot longer than the winter to engineer and construct bridges over those expanses. Unless they can jerry rig something for truck traffic only, I don't see this being rectified anytime soon, or even in 2022. Although I could be wrong.

Vancouver is cut off from the rest of Canada for now. But that also means that a large portion of the province won't get food deliveries as easily. Supermarkets are bare already here in the interior. Costco is almost post apocalyptic. We have two possible routes through Golden and Jasper, which have been known to close frequently as well.

Highway 3 will be the first to get opened I think, but it's a long, twisty road.

The trains aren't getting through either. Here in Kamloops they have been parked.

I've read that at the border crossing, emergency measures have been put in place to allow BC residents to return home with not much more than a driver's license.

Have a ski trip to the Kootenays planned in the new year. Already sorted out a route thru Washington State. From what I have seen in all the vids, the destruction of the #1 and the Coq there is no way even the #1 will be up and running before spring.  The Coq? Fuggetaboutit.

Temporary alternate routes will be constructed long before major roads get fixed. This will need to happen just for them to reconstruct the roads. Travel will be very slow but the roads will be there for goods and supplies.

Hire the US Army Corp of Engineers and the highway will get opened up in no time.

Didn’t Justin say he was sending in the troops earlier today?

Malahat has been down to single lane alternating and closed from 6pm-6am. BC Ferries is doing 3 hour sailings from Duke Point - Swartz Bay and extra sailings on the Brentwood Bay - Mill Bay.

Malahat is back open 24hrs/day now.

Hopefully this means I can get gas tomorrow. Missed out on the convoy today by about 30 minutes.

Great article on how what used to be Sumas Lake, the issues with draining it and how flood waters from south of the border affect the Sumas Prairie. The gif is from the article.

Watched the briefing by the mayor of Abbotsford.  They have to build a 2km "dike" along Highway 1 to stop the water flowing in from the break in the existing north dike.  Sumac Lake is growing towards Chilliwack, and it's already tens of square kilometers in size.

Yeah that's my take as well. Hwy 3 will likely get opened up first. Duffy soon after but that's not really a viable option for commercial trucking.
