I dare you to go down to the union hall and say the first part of that there.

And why would I want to do that? It's not like it's a well kept secret.

Ya I get the impression that you've got to want to stick it to the man on a daily basis, not cooperate with customs agents, not be bothered by being a drain on the system, amongst other qualities. I could go on but you get the picture.

You forgot that you must abuse some sort substance while on the job. Be it booze, weed, coke or hell why not make it a holy trinity of all three. Booze for breakfast (whisky coffee), go for a "smoke" break, and then a little pick me up before you finish your 12 hour shift.

When I first started bartending, I served a few longshoremen some drinks while they were not only on a break from work (and are in a casino, go unions for keeping them around) but we're supposed to be AT work. They even boasted that they can do whatever they want b/c the jobs are short staffed.

hahaha. 3 of us used to golf twice a week with a longshoreman. he would go in and punch in and then meet us at the golf course. then the four of us would go out for lunch and beers. it was quite humorous.

Being an agoraphobic adrenaline junkie would be pretty convenient, because you could get your rush from just going to the store to get some milk instead of having to jump off a mountain or out of an airplane.

they also call me "balloon"

if it wasnt for unions we would all still be working in sweat shops and unsafe conditions… yeah they have their negatives, but the positives the workforce has gotten from them outweighs them. im not union and have no desire to be in the union but i work on a job site with 3 different unions and when there is work they work extremely hard.

jake has come through for me before, I fully suspect he is just trying to find all his clothes and finishing up breakfast

No one argues their uses in the past, merely their usefulness in the present.

They still have their usefullness in the present, but the big problem is the way SOME organizations abuse the employer, their members and outright lie to both….and lie to the public as well when they are affected by the actions of either party.

you guys are very misguided about longshoremen. Maybe 10 years ago thats how it is but they have a 0 tolerance for drugs and alcohol, and you know what?

The port of vancouver equals the canadian dollar.

Tell that to all the longshoremen who I've worked with while they were in their casual hours period.

Twas a sad day ten years ago when the job description was changed to no longer include the line: "intoxication while working is encouraged".

Was it changed to "is mandatory?"
