Nice find, look at Brenda Fassie track, she's been hunting in the woods. lol
I know these tracks are only for a few months so far. It'd be nice to see a one year
pattern to see where they go during the off season. One thing that I saw that supports
the theory that it's the animals that are just learning to hunt big animals is how much
the smaller sharks ([HTML_REMOVED]10') moved vs the larger animals ([HTML_REMOVED]10'). You can see the smaller
ones moved a lot and out to sea quite a bit while the larger ones really concentrated
their efforts near particular places (I assume where seals hang out).
So when the animals get 10-12' long they start their transition from eating fish to a
mammalian diet. It's during this period the theory says that they can easily mistake
a human for a seal as they have little to no experience with seals so are going on
what their instinct has given them and a surfer outline or someone standing in the shallows
"might be" a seal so they take a chance. That means that a shark that has bitten a human
will in all likelihood never attack a human again. Also, sharks that have eaten several
seals now know exactly what seals look like in different situations so will not attack
either.
In summary, we should learn more about their habits and patterns, stay out of the water
during the high times or go in the water with the knowledge that it's a "bad" time and
asses the risk (still very low) and go in the water anyway.
In other words, we need to stop be so fucking reactionary and stop killing sharks.
You are 168 times more likely to be killed by a croc http://english.pravda.ru/society/stories/13-12-2010/116179-crocodiles-0/
Sharks kill or mail up to 15 people every year. Hippos kill 200, elephants kill 250, bees - 1,250, whereas crocodiles kill 2,500 people every year. The stats make crocodiles 168 times more dangerous than sharks. The ultimate killer is the mosquito. They spread malaria - the disease that kills up to 2 million humans every year.
Australians are so effing macho all the time, why are they such pussies when it comes
to sharks?
