Left my macbook on sleep for a week, battery toast. Boooo!

I put my macbook to sleep one night, and then the Olympics came to town and I got busy. I used the internet at work, and didn't bother to crank up my own lappy for at least 7 days.

Now, the battery won't accept a charge. It says "Not Charging" by the battery icon. There's the bright green light on the plug that never turns amber like it should.

Also, my machine works fine when it's plugged in, but as soon as I unplug it, it dies right away.

I've searched various mac forums, but can't seem to find out if this is repairable.

Macs seem to have silly maintenance issues though. Is leaving your mac on sleep for a few days something that can (stupidly) kill the battery, requiring me to purchase a new one?

I've left my mac in sleep mode for many days without a problem like this.

Never heard of this, I haven't left my MacBook on sleep for a week, but a few days at a time has given me no problem. I don't see why this should be an issue. Take it to a Apple store.

Same, probably just a bad battery.

Call Apple.

I've only had the computer since Jan 2009, so I hope it's not a wearing out problem. I would expect a battery to last longer than a year.

Take the battery into the closest Apple store. Depending on how old it is they may replace it.

My 1st gen Macbook was once slept for long enough to put the battery in a deep discharge state where the Power Management Unit could not muster the power to boot up and accept a charge.

This was a common problem for a certain batch of batteries.

I was still within my 1 yr warranty so I got a replacement in 17 days (dropping the battery off at a dealer no less)… 17 days without a battery, one MagSafe disconnect from losing data.

They will most likely replace it, no questions asked. Take it in.
