From a company around my area. I teach at a school not 10 k away from SOlingen. Solingen has been in the knife business for centuries.

I guess Gooch and other prefer Japanese blades since the forging tends to be better. At least this is what I would say, depending on the price tho.

The Classic Icon Series retails around 180 Euros over here, 3 knives.

I do not know them, only company I do know is Herbertz, they have some mighty fine hunting knives and the like.

The price seems to be alright tho. Not that much more than over here.

The Japanese make the best stainless, the Germans make the best forgings. Everything I bring in from overseas is of Japanese steel and German forgings. Even the products that are made in 3 world countries (like Greece ;)) are made of Japanese steel and the forgings come from Germany.

I have a set of Wusthos they are very nice. Paid like 600 for the set about 8 years ago. I was even more impressed with them when I took them into our shop to be polished and sharpened. We sharpen stainless scissors and other stainless cutting stuff at work. The material is a very good quality of Stainless. My guy knows his stainless with his 50 years of experience. He was impressed with the quality of the steel. They are good but not the best that is available.
