So how did you turn out? Would a jury of your peers deem his experiment a success?
I'd say I'm doing pretty good. No jail, never hit a woman, don't cheat, never been unemployed
except after a hurricane destroyed our island, but I was busy rebuilding for friends (my
house was spared). I did experiment with some drugs, but haven't done anything illegal
since 1985 and I haven't been drunk in decades, although I do like a beer now and then.
Discipline didn't really stop me from doing some bad things as a kid, but it did instill
a deep rooted fear of going to jail and generally failing at life. So much so that I tended
to rethink my actions and for the most part stayed on the straight and narrow.
I think coming from a drug smuggling/dealing and using father, and having no monetary
security with no real backups also helped to keep me from fucking up too bad. That and
military training reinforced what my dad was trying to teach me. Too bad basic training
instructors can't touch recruits any more, I saw a lot of guys that needed a ass whooping
in training.
What I see now days is parents that are too afraid of disciplining their kids yet their
kids are out of control so they give them pills to calm them down. To me that's more
abusive than a good spanking.
