someone in one of the bike shops said Merritt riding was awesome. can't wait to check it all out. i was surprised at the closing of bike shops there and how few there are (given how many large LBS's there are in the Comox Valley) so i was wondering what was going on with the 'scene'. and i thought there was no Transition dealer and then stumbled across District. i think i'll be spending a lot of time there.

There are 3 good shops here. We have a good scene and it only gets better every day. One of the BC Enduro organizers lives here, and a few World class mountain bikers including Graham Aggasiz and Catherine Pendrel. Huge talents. Just wait until you see the jumps at the Ranch for Aggy's reunion. You can put a modest sized house in between them.

We can always use more trail building help too! So far its myself and one other building trail in Pineview.

I'm riding for District, and we have a decent little team starting up. Jeff likes Tequilla, FYI.

i read about the proposed mine and i've watched some of the opposing videos on youtube. kinda scares me as it sounds like it will be awful. but maybe it's all hype i don't know. i'm not opposed to business or resource extraction in theory but this mine sounds bad.

No way the mine will go through at the current $2 US/Lb copper is trading for right now.

It had mediocre returns @ $3 lb/US. The only reason they were pursuing it was because of the existing permit from the previous mine. Easy pickings.

Lot's of misinformation/bullshit being floated around by people with 0 experience in the industry. That being said KGMH has a pretty poor track record.

New Afton is pretty close. They also dig up a lot of copper.

If KGHM can get approval they will build, regardless of current market conditions. Global copper supply is expected to be surplus over demand this year but is expected to swing over to deficit by 2017, and seeing as it will likely take 3-5 years to get concentrate out of the mill they would likely break ground quickly

Aren't they supposed to collapse it at some point?

Technically yes, that's the process of what they are doing. It's called block cave mining.
