I really hope you're right. But if GM and/or Chrysler go tits up then all bets are off.

People around us are still spending like crazy like it's the US (pre-financial turmoil), but I wonder how long it can last.

The US government won't let the big three go down. Just like MOPAR in the late
70's they will bail them out. They will become more fiscally responsible (for a
while) and they will do good. This is just a way they can re-tool at the expense
of the american people.

I work in legal support, so when the economy is good we have business, when the economy is bad we have more business. Pretty safe, barring mismanagement or physical disaster.

I bet you guys are working double time right now! :)

dear DW,
since you got like a million bucks now, can i borrow $2850 for a Revolt frame?

thanks,
steve

After reading this thread I guess I'm worried, but I survived the IT meltdown at the beginning of this decade, so who knows…

No job right now since I'm back in school for GIS, and I think there is still plenty out there, even for my co-op term next summer. BCTS is hiring at least one since we got the posting yesterday. Our co-op contact says we should be fine - we just might not be able to pick and choose like in previous years.

The weed industry alone is 7.5b dollar industry that employs roughly a quarter mil and that is in bc and weed alone.

I

So a quarter of a million people work in the weed industry? Essentially the population of Victoria works in that industry? Are you really that stupid??

On another note, my suggestion for people with trades or project management experience is to get in with the government. Layoffs are rare with the government, mass layoffs especially, so while you may not make as much as you did working downtown, it's a guaranteed job that isn't likely to go away anytime soon, and you get good benefits.

You may want to look into this a little more.

I'm feeling safe right now. Strangely enough, I work at the same place as you Feral. You still have a parking pass?

You're wrong. A lot of businesses are fronts anyways. And the older generation in Vancouver are generally penny pinchers. It the young generation such as my self.

Btw kinda off-topic but the gang squad really do some illegal searches. I just witnesses police brutality.

Also got to say I think vegas is really taking a hit. I have about a stack of "come to our hotel/casino and well give you free stay valh blah blah".

Not really. Almost all of the hotels never really made money of hotel stays. It's the hotel casino's that raked in the money. Most of the hotel rooms go for way below what it would cost anywhere else.

there is an app for the iphone where there are 3 dials and you shake the phone and they move (sort of like a slot machine)

I would suspect that there are alot of BC towns with that extra money coming into the local economy. I know Kamloops has some of that going on.

the 7.5 billion is close to right (teh webz tell me six) the highest estimate of people "employed" in the industry i could find was 150,000 and that was guessing 6 people per grow up, which anyone who ever knew anyone involved can tell ya is really high.

i would venture a guess that once you factor in grow ups, mules, dealers, etc you are looking at less than 100,000 - still a pretty big number
