I am just curious to see how everyone sees their near future employment outlook.

So, what do you do and do you think there is a chance that you will lose your job or that you will be forced to take a pay-cut in the near future?

Pedro does bring up some good points, but being only one R off of Pedo …. discounts much of that

I would say the current downtrend has no effect on my job security.

I'm a big believer in that no ones job is ever safe. Expect the unexpected.

I am lucky with regard to the financial downturn effecting my employment but i won't get into why.

What's a bigger threat to my job security is my healthy nsmb habit…

I sell equipment [HTML_REMOVED] supplies to the forest/logging industry. I should be worried about the future, however, I am rather excited about it. In the 8 years our company has been in Vernon, we had our best month ever last month. It has been up to me as the sales rep to diversify ourselves, and that is what I've done and now I am reeping the benefits :)

I won't be at all surprised if we see a 10-20[HTML_REMOVED]#37; RIF at my company happening either Q408 or Q109. Large global software company.

Whether that directly hits me or not is a big question. R[HTML_REMOVED]D is a cost center, but our product is profitable. Right now I give it a 30% chance of hitting me in the face.

I have steel toe boots and a hard hat so I am safe.

is going big on a bike the only way to get you stoked on the sport? what happened to riding with your bros, travelling, and riding unique places, to get people stoked on riding?

fines are useless. there needs to be more punches to the throat.

Self-employed so no "job" per se, but bottom line already hit significantly. I see things getting worse overall.

Yes, because as long as Canada has a military I will always have a job.

Im currently a student in microbiology/cell biology and this economic downturn has very little impact on me in the near future. All of the money in research is guaranteed by grants. Im not sure whether the money for the grants will decrease, but I doubt it. I think that the only decrease in work would be in the private sector, which I don't have an interest in for my future, so I think Im pretty secure.

Where do you think grant money comes from? Trees?

I work for an accounting firm and historically our firm did just as good if not better during economic downturn. In the near future I would say it should be just fine.
