Internet Billing changes March 1st...

I regularly pull 10 GB down and about 5 GB Up in 24hrs without notices… but then again, I pay for one of the top tier packages as a result of my use.

If these sorts of things are real operational problems, then why are ISPs selling and marketing services that are outside their abilities to provide? (eg: unlimited bandwidth) and if this is legitimately true, why then do these products constitute sustained, profitable growth during a recessionary period? (Further agreement to AlanB's price gouging statement)

The CRTC claims to be pursuing a course that allows for market forces to play more of a role in the industry. While at the same time, and from the same article, the CRTC acceptance of this deliberately takes the knees out of all of the smaller competition. In actuality, this enables the big three to maintain a skewed competitive advantage sanctioned by the regulator. The big three execs, which govern the CRTC in part, also maintain working ties with their former employer whom have also given consent for their employees to take CRTC postings. (A link to this info is in my previous postings) I don't see how this isn't anti-competitive behavior… but then again, if you're all buddy-buddy with the group that is supposed to be watching for this, who the hell cares? Rabble! Rabble!!

There still is a larger issue with the CRTC itself… one thing at a time it seems.

It would not surprise me if certain members of the CRTC were lining up at the trough of telco and cable companies to make policies that rule in the favour of them, rather than the consumer. and getting "perks" for creative policy creation.

This is good that it may be getting blown up bigger than it is.

I feel the underlying issue is Canadians' general distrust and dislike of the CRTC. It was an organization that had its purpose many years ago and flew under the radar for many of those years. As of late though, it has been meddling far too much with encouraging monopolistic/oligopolistic ideas.

It was the Conservative government that had to overrule the CRTCs decision to stop further competition in the wireless spectrum with Wind…

yup, the jig is up over at the CRTC…they were able to keep things relatively quiet for a while, but we now know how screwed we're getting by them, on everything (phone, cable, net, etc.) and this may be the time we finally get fed up enough to get heard…..bet they thought they could ram through one more gouging on us and I think it has the potential to really motivate people, sad that it has to be over the internet, but I think people have reached their boiling point finally.

We pay for what we use on almost every front. This isn't any different.

So Switch, I assume you also think cable [HTML_REMOVED] sat TV should also be UBB?

How about local dialing?

There are three main questions here:
1. Should there be a cap?
2. If yes, what level should the cap be at?
3. At what rate should usage beyond the cap be charged?

Most people could live with a cap, it's the two others that we have a problem with. The cap of 25GB is set far too low, and the cost for usage over the cap is abusively expensive. Fix those two things and you'd have WAY less opposition.

I'm just tired of all the whiners who think they have some God given right to have everything for free and that someone else should pay for their free use. Start acting in a responsible manner and stop being a drain on society. I'm not going to subsidize your porn addiction.
