I want to be at this guys house when the collapse happens. We're going to be deep frying everything. I think Vancouverites are a little bit different than most places. I think most people here have at least given a passing thought about what they have stockpiled in case of a giant earthquake.

…I think most people here have at least given a passing thought about what they have stockpiled in case of a giant earthquake.

The GF works in civic Emergency preparedness (Richmond and Burnaby). you'd be stunned on how that is not true at all. Yes, most have 'thought' about it, but I literally knew zero people who had the recommended stuff for an emergency prior to her working in the field (out of 50-ish family and close friends that in the GVRD). They and everyone else that comes across the outreach programs all believed that the city and various gov't are equipped to support the population en-mass post event. Or, that because they have outdoor hobbies, believe they have the stuff needed. But is what you need quickly accessible if you had [HTML_REMOVED] one minute to get out of your house? Guaranteed it's not.

The reality is most GVRD civic EM depts are [HTML_REMOVED] 5 FT and PT ppl in total and most have budgets that are [HTML_REMOVED] $50k/yr above salaries. Most of the off-duty first responders also dont live in your city (exception being Langley) Some cites have a few scattered seacans with rations and blankets but their capacity is [HTML_REMOVED]10% of pop.

It's scary how screwed 95% of ppl are if something serious were to occur… for [HTML_REMOVED]$150 per household you can kit yourselves pretty out well. And remember; You probably spend +1/3 of your time well away from home.

Thanks for the link and in regarding your 1/3 of time away from home, one should also consider how many bridges or impasses they have on the way home as well.
