Hello All,

I'm looking for some type of insurance to cover me for mountain biking and bike commuting injuries. I don't race, but I just want to be covered if something bad happens…

Does anyone know of such a policy?

disability insurance is typically linked to your career field. i'm sure there are many different companies that offer policies, but it's probably best to see an insurance agent to talk about your needs and to see which underwriter has a policy that suits your needs and price range. also, if you're part of a professional association see if they have any sort of special realtionship with an insurance provider, same for you uni/college alumni association if that applies.

We don't know what our limits are, so to start something with the idea of being limited actually ends up limiting us.

+1 for this. Pedal Power Insurance is their offering. It's not for everyone, but it's worth a look.

Wish I could remember the company….i will get back to you.
A buddy riding a cruiser moto got side swiped and now has a chicken wing and a club foot…his private insurance payed out 4g a month for 4 years before he saw anything from Icbc. It was a total life saver.

i'm pretty sure disability insurance should cover you regardless of how or where you are injured. IMO everyone should have it, through your employer or privately. great link to the Oasis insurance i'm going to look further into that for dirtbiking.

The policy they offer with BCORMA helps support trail projects in your area.

Anyone know if disability insurance ever has exclusions for activities like mountain biking, backcountry skiing etc? I will be checking with my employer's plan.

I ask because life insurance policies often disallow claims in death arising from certain activities and backcountry skiing is frequently on the list.

if you insure a vehicle with icbc, check what coverage extends to cycling on roads. If you break yourself on boundary, just drag your body down to braemar and call it in

Employer plans often suck. Check the details. My disability insurance is "own profession", i.e. I have to be well enough to do my current job, otherwise the insurance company pays out. No exclusions on my insurance.

As part of the old cradle-to-grave corporate package I have a 12K insurance policy … to bury me
