iMac Vs. MacBook

Looking at purchasing a new computer, and really had no idea what the iMac's were about until I stepped into Future Shop.

I'll be using it for GoPro editing, and thats about it other then everyday internet cruising, etc.

I've got a Toshiba Satellite laptop that operates great, and has for the last 7-8 years, but is running out of space and operating power when trying to play 1080p GoPro HD videos. I also have an iPhone [HTML_REMOVED] iPad, so for shear sake of not having another portable unit [HTML_REMOVED] compatibility, I'm leaning more towards the 27,5" iMac.

Any thoughts from you iMac/MacBook owners?

The only pro with having the laptop would be go pro editing on trips. Tablet + desktop has you covered for better computing experience while still being able to surf and waste time on the couch.

Guy in my class even runs his Mac remotely from his iPad while at school.

I have both the 27" iMac and 17" Macbook and use my Macbook probably 95% of the time.

But running iMac from the iPad is a pretty cool option.

Hackintosh. Better spec (apart from the screen) for half the price.

Though I have to say, the 27" iMacs are well nice for video editing on if you're working on big projects. Maybe a bit overkill just for some GoPro vids though.

I'd say iMac due to the screen size, unless you can also afford a nice monitor for the MacBook.

Running AirDisplay on the iPad turns it into a second or third screen - nice little feature worth the few bucks for the app.

Macbook. Who the hell buys desktop machines anymore? Buy a 42" HD TV and plug your Macbook into the HDMI port if you want the full on big-screen experience and still be able to surf the 'net while taking a dump.

Macboks come with Mini DisplayPort video. You need to buy a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adaptor, $35
