ICBC and Different Car Types?

I currently drive one of the most desirable cars on the planet. Ladies flock from afar provinces to check it out. If you have to ask, you can't afford it (it's a red 1997 Honda Civic CX hatchack….). As I don't need a commuting car any more, I might look to buy something more 'interesting' (to me at least) in the future. I've heard comments that the type of vehicle doesn't affect the insurance premium too much but can't find anything to back that up. Vehicle type comes it at number 6 on this list but no idea if the list is in order of relevance.

So, for instance if I was to buy something that was cool in it's day but compared to a cheap modern car is utterly shit (a 1983 Porsche 944 springs to mind ha…) would I be paying high insurance? Car type in the UK has a big bearing on insurance but no idea about here.

Those older Hondas were notorious for having higher insurance premiums because if their theft rate.

Why not call ICBC and ask them for a list of rate categories with car models in them?

I just googled around and ford F250s and F350s took the top 9 out of 10 spots in the 10 most stolen vehicles in Canada list.

Anyone own one? Are they stolen because they're easy to take, or just a very desirable truck?

The fact that all of the stolen for trucks are at least 10 years old suggests they are stolen because they are easy to steal and/or are easy to resell on the open and black market.

GF Drives my 2001 F150 to work. Last week walked out to find her truck gone.

The next call we made was to the New West Police.

Was not stolen and she now has a better understanding of parking signs

This is a high theft truck and that is where my thoughts went

Thanks all. Clear as mud then! I was wondering if my Civic might have a higher premium due to most of them being stolen over the years… Reminds me of getting into my mates Ford Fiesta with his house key by mistake once.
I read a comment somewhere that a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo was cheaper to insure than a shitty Pontiac Bonfire due to the the Pontiac having a coupe shape, and the Lancer having 4 doors! FFS….

Using ICBC's logic, I need to buy one of these:

just be happy you don't live in Telkwa

Insurance rates are significantly higher In PG than in Smithers 400kms west, the rate zone for PG ends in Telkwa a small bedroom comunity 12km from the big city of Smithers, in one example it cost 600$ a year more to insure a car in Telkwa than in Smithers … Telkwanians are pissed

Yes, ICBC sets rate classes for Collision (damage to your car, your fault) and Comprehensive (fire, theft, vandalism, glass, collision with animals, trees, etc, out of your control) for each car, and determines your rate based on your driving history. So yes, your Civic is more expensive to insure than a Corolla because they get stolen more often and because there are a bunch of enthusiasts modifying them.
