So I got this truck and it has this engine. I was trying to sort it out the other night, had it in my parking garage against the concrete wall. Messing around with a timing light. My landlord explodes through the door spewing aggressive Albanian noise, which is frightening. Im shaking the whole building, babies are crying, and things are rattling. Anyway, got the truck out to Andrews new garage where we have some more freedom to work.

So…

Truck is an 88 short box chevy, 12 bolt 3.73 with a richmond locker. Saginaw 4 speed. Hedman long tube headers to dual 3" dumping in front of the axle. A giant clock that only goes to 10 O-clock, and something called line-lock.

The motor is a bit of a mystery. Things we know are:
- K.B. 10-1 pistons
- Edlebrock Victor J.R. (single plane) manifold
- Edlebrock 600cfm Preformer carb
- 010 block, not sure if it's bored or what main is in it.
- Camel hump heads.
- 1.6 crane energizer roller rockers
- Lumpy cam, no idea what it is.
- MSD billet disty
- Gear Drive
- 8 quart oil pan.

Anyone know anything bout a carb setup on a motor like this? The 1406 is a pretty simple carb but we know nothing about this stuff yet. Its at is base config right now and wondering if we should be rich or lean. Timing advance? We're confused.

Old dual pump 750 Holley

Removed, wrong type of pressure gauge, it got cooked.

Some new stuff.

Installed.

On the carb, easiest way to tell how its running is to run it, pull a spark plug…google spark plug chop and you will learn more than you might ever need to know about how to tune an engine just based of the spark plug. Side note, works best with fresh plugs.

Or, you could purchase a wideband air fuel gauge, which mounts an O2 sensor in the exhuast and do it that way

Every car should come with line lock.

When in doubt, advance the timing.

Or add Slick 50 and gain 20HP.

Or cut off the exhaust pipes at the firewall! Add at least 15mph to your top end!

We got it going, a bit lean still, rejeting it tonight, a bit of timing, and tomorrow is the dyno day at racing greed I'm poco.

Anyone want to guess the numbers? I'm also going to dyno my 84 5.ho, shorty headers edelbrock 600cfm carb and airgap manifold.

With or without the chrome oil cap?

Who knows how much loss there will be in the transmission. What is it?

Stick a 4.11 rear end in there and have some fun.

We've got it running pretty nice now. Pulls well. Dyno day tomorrow. Even if the numbers are lower than we expect, we can use to a/f printouts and power curve to help us along. The victor jris defiantly a lot of manifold and it suffer below 3000rpm because of it.

4.11 might be too much, 3.73 lights up 295s at will.

Truck needs some work still, we couldn't jet it rich enough with the kit we had, and the intake is just not right. Even so it still did 213hp and 305 torque, running lean down low and rich up top

My rustang put down 240hp and 295 torques, and thats running rich too, not bad for a $1500 car
