I had this horrible thought a while back, that the RIAA would start compromising and dupe people into thinking they're somewhat reasonable while still getting a lot of the ridiculous things it wants…. but I guess its just as loony as ever.

If a cop writes you a speeding ticket, does that mean the cop has never exceeded a speed limit?
The job of the juror is to give a decision based on the facts, which they did. If there is something wrong with the law, then it's up to the legislators to change it.
So why not really send a message and impose the death penalty for d/l'ing two dozen songs? I mean once they've ruined her life the may as well end it.
Or maybe a reasonable fine of a few hundred bucks per song would be more appropriate while still sending out the message. The cop in your (poor) analogy is only writing a ticket for 1-300 bux.
