How much do you know about financial independence?

Due to some odd circumstances I have accumulated and carried over vacation pay. What now? My employer is aware of the situation and cooperative but is unsure what is best for me. Any suggestions?

Fuck man! Cash out and spend frivolously!!!!!!!!!! Channel GWB fer chris sakes………:high:

For example, due to an un-forseen diabolical chain of events I just spent over 2 grand on a 17 year old vehicle. :stupid: :fix:

So now I'm thinkin' since it needs tyres why not spend $500.00+ on some black 5 spoke wheels to showcase the cheapest 185R65 14 rubber I can afford?

:stupid:

Freedom of contract. We sell them guns that kill them; they sell us drugs that kill us.

Sorry, what's the problem? Take your vacation.

I hated 57(2). Couldn't bank up vacation time and take a payout.

Vacation time is much more valuable than cash pay-out if you are on salary in my opinion. Take the time always.

Makes me wonder how many in the cheering crowd actually listened. Great show. Thanks!

I made the mistake of reviewing my holdings on Friday and then again on Monday :damn:

Fortunately recovered almost 90% of the loses yesterday and today, and with CAD down a bit, all of my USD holdings are effectively up enough to pretty much make up the differences. I had a tough time resisting the urge to join in the panic sell by the end of the second day tho.

Everybody here claiming to be day trading see that one coming? You must have made a killing in the last week.

I'm up $48 on the 4k VCN I bought Friday last week. Yes, I did see it coming and waited for the vote to buy low. Should have waited till Monday though.

Hardly a killing, but still 1% in a week. Does that make me a 1%er?

Buy low, sell high Kendaf. Be glad you resisted.

However, I am mildly curious how those in the know "make a killing" in a short term crash blip.

You said it yourself (though backwards in this case): sell high, buy low

My pretty conservative portfolio of mostly ETFs and bank stocks was down around 3% in 2 days, and has now recovered over 3% in 2 days. Had I sold my entire portfolio Thursday then bought it all back late Monday, I would be up 6% in 4 days. That's a year's worth of earnings on a conservative portfolio in under a week. Yeah, I'd call that a killing!

But anybody with that kind of market timing wouldn't waste their time on conservative ETFs. Play the options game and you could easily leverage a 3% market swing into a monster profit (or play it badly and lose it all, which is why I don't hold options beyond the ones I am granted through work).

Anyhow, the market seems to have settled down, and after a couple days of regret at not being more proactive, my laziness has rewarded me with being right back where I was this time last week. I can live with that personally. After some of the earlier posts here I was disappointed not to see somebody on here claiming to have timed the spike (after the fact of course) and made a fistful of cash. Surprise, it seems like the only folks left on this thread are actually investors, not "traders"!

Well someone on here mentioned buying Teck every time that it dips and then selling again as it goes up. It seems sort of cyclical. That's one of those times where I wish I had listened to that bit of advice. So now I'm going to try Barclays (BCS:NYSE) which lost 30% value after BREXIT and is already up 10% in 3 days…here's hoping it recovers a bit more.

Anyone have any good day trading resources? Books? Podcasts?

This trip to Kelowna was definately an undertaking - Liam and I had been planning this project for 24 hours. We worked really hard to pull out all the stops in this video. We had slo-mo goggle shots; time lapses; pedal flips; outrageous product shots; unloading and loading the bike; walking through the field with your hand in wheat. At the end of the day this trip was all about just getting out and riding with all my friends.

This. Until you understand each companies financial statements, follow them quarterly and maybe even attend the AGM, individual stocks are just gambling. Might as well go to Vegas, or wherever the casino is in South America.
