How much do you know about financial independence?

From what I heard talking to people when I was there is that there are no plans to grow the town so moving there is inadvisable. There's next to nothing available to live in, be it to buy or rent.

You could always buy a bare plot of land and build your own home. That would qualify as a smart move towards financial independence.

Or you could just show up on three sheets doorstep and live in his basement.

One thing to consider is the medical infrastructure.  It's bad in the lower mainland and worse in a lot of the smaller communities around the province.  Hopefully this will get sorted out in the near future.

I know enough to be house rich and cash poor.  Thinking of selling the house, paying off the mortgage and buying the entire province of PEI with the net.

there's no more RE, nothing is for sale,  all the carpenters quit pounding nails to teach yoga and do breath coaching,

but they can still do amputations with a rusty saw

I would probably say stay the course ^^ BC nuggets, the thing about moving away is if you wana keep owning RE you can't come back to Vangroovy

20 yrs ago myself and 3 sheets were recommending to NBR move narth for the better lifestyle

I think ever one was worried there were not enough starbucks and no avocado toast so no body came

20 yrs later there are vegetables, coffee and mtn biking every where so you just never know

play the long game

Yeah, I know what you're saying.  I have a love/hate relationship with Vangroovy and the wife never wants to leave.

people used to accept transfers all over the place but I don't know how that goes now with the crazy RE prices, we had some guys come up to look at a transfer back in the day they would have come but it was their wives that did not want to leave, but I think that would be different now

I left Vancover TO getaway from my ex-wife and it was a move I never regreted

Actualy ER wait times are probably much shorter up here  than in Vangroovy and when they don't know what they are dealing with the local pro's have no problem putting you on a medivac flight so you can recieve the same bad medical treatment as in Vangroovy

I don't wan't to live up there though. I found northwestern BC to have a generally grim vibe about it. Our plan when we eventually sell the new west condo will be to move somewhere quieter but we're thinking Powell River, Texada or one of the other nearby Islands.

well the concept was move away from Vangroovy

The reasons were cheaper RE/ perhaps cash in on your Vangroovy home equity/ no commute/ job opurtoonity/ cheaper living but that ship has long sailed and housing is expensive pretty much everywhere

The last price boom in PG was when I sold at the peak in 2010, then RE went in the dumper and there were cheaper houses for < 200K, they have since recovered and at least doubled

and all those places you mention are fucking expensive now days, my sister just moved back to the mainland and she hated the island so YMMV as they say

but why do i say that people would probably take a transfr now ... cuz shits got a lot worse

NBR is not about making sense in fact often the stupidest thing one could possible write is the best thing one could write

you have posted 2 links a custom built 5300 sq ft home and an 1100 sq ft condo which have absolutely nothing in common

BC nuggets made more sense buying the province of PEI altho you did at least get the cities of PG and Vancover right

In any case 3 shits and i were telling people 20 yrs ago that it was a good time to move narth and IMO that shit has changed

Sweat equity. I'd turn this place into a dream home. I've actually been in this house before as an old friend of mine lives across the street.

It's not like prices in the sticks are gonna completelt detach from prices in the lower mainland somehow. No matter what the market does our condo should still be able to get us a small house somewhere remote. This isn't happening for another 10-15 years anyways...
