How is your imagination?

So I'm making a 20 minute long movie for film and television class… the class is fun and making movies is super fun. I kind of came up with the idea of a movie about some people that are making a movie… three kids assigned in a group in film and television class, one jock/bully type, one nerdy type, and one other guy that I haven't decided… either a party-animal type (think the guy in Animal House), or a white kid who thinks he is gangster. I know my characters are not very original, but I'm not going for too many Oscars here.

Anyways, I want the movie to be a comedy about them making this other movie that they have to make… I was thinking having the three characters not really get along too well, and basically everything goes wrong.

Well here is where I need you… I realized i can't write comedy. It's easy to say something funny when the situation is right, but it's a whole other story having to make the situation, and the humor, out of nowhere. If you were making a movie like this, what do you think would be some funny things for them to say, or situations for them to get into/things to happen?

If there's something else that you think would be more funny, or much better to make for a movie (doesn't even have to be funny), let 'er out. Now's your chance to come up with ideas for a movie!

just do something like breakfast club, but skip right to the cigar burns and getting high in the library.

I haven't seen this movie. Arg it is so hard to come up with something original these days!

I'm thinking one scene can be after they have decided on a script and all of that, they are looking for actors. They decide to hold auditions, and a bunch of horrible actors try out. I could get a bit of funny out of that maybe… have it American Idol style almost, with the filmmakers commenting on the bad acting attemps?

If all else fails you could always do a blair witch knockoff.

Do you have a story line yet? It sounds like you are still tossing around ideas. Get some friends together and start brainstorming, no need for a script yet, just get an idea going.

As far as humor goes, look into everyday life. Find quirky things people say and take it out of context. I have a friend who has been working on a script(comedy) and she gets a lot of her lines from phone conversations with her mother(who is funny as hell).

Get creative and get some other minds in on it.

i gots an idea, that im pretty sure i stole from somewhere.
so. when something bad happens, have your 3 protagonists in a row sort of, maybe arranged from 'loudest' to 'quietest'.
the loudest first goes "nooooo!"
second says "NooooooooooooOooooo"!
and the third one takes a huuuuge deep breath like he's gonna let the mother of all "Nooooooo…"'s out, but instead, as soon as he starts with the first "N-" you cut to another scene.

it might be easier if your characters have something 'special' about them eg. a jock with a lisp, a nerd with a big cock, a girl with a hairy upper lip or whatever. I think the fact that your characters are boring, sterotypical and completely unoriginal will make your whole piece be the same.

PCH… the thing isn't really a lot about the originality of your ideas, more on how well you can execute them. I just want to have some fun making this.
