First attempt (1gallon) at a Fraoch Heather ale going to secondary tonight. No hops, just heather tips and honey. If only I knew what bogmyrtle was.

Anyone making any fresh hopped beers?
I made a fresh hopped CDA this past Sunday, based on the one Steve (Biggles604) made last year at our Wort Day demo. Same grain bill and hop schedule but used different hops. Should be ready in 3 weeks.

Fresh hopped centennial blonde is in the primary. First year plant, so I went with a light beer.

I'm drinking my first glass of my own brewed version of a Heather Ale. Quite good actually - very different than anything brewed with hops, subtley flowery with some honey.

has anyone seen bogmyrtle or sweet gale plants around? This heather ale is quite good, and I'm going to see if I can find fresh flowering heather and fresh flowering bogmrytle or gale.

finally got to brew my beer. Ended up doing 10bbl. Sure is nice to brew on a commercial system. Steam kettle ftw.

aparently someone complained about the smell in the bar one time, so they made a switch for that.

manual controlled 20bbl system, Newlands been there since '96. HLT and stem gen not shown. THIs building used to be a Packard storage facility, there used to be a car lift in the back.

that little barrel is called a Grant, used during the Vorlauf so you don't get stuck sparges, basically it fills via gravity, and then pump back in, smart.

They had tons of left over beers from Pumpkin fest, like 20kegs showed up while I was there.

tried a couple of them, (OK basically I drank free beer all day) Punkaccino, Ginger Pumpkin Pilsner, Sardonic Black Wit(with Lost Abbey), Fresh hop Citra(with BaleBreaker), Gourdfather (pumpkin Barleywine) Kevin had made up a great Huckleberry Berlinerwiess too.

So we have to go to Seattle to try your brew? That sucks.

What I meant was, would you want to work as a brewer having done it for a day?

10bbl = ~20 kegs, most of it will be up here at some point.
