We got a pretty solid one around that size from Gourmet Warehouse. Works well in a sharing arrangement with the s/o too. Wife uses it for Jam, I sterilize and use for beer.
I think Dan's sells some pretty large ones too but they are around $50.
Admittedly, I am using a small batch kit but I just paid for two brews at $18 total. Definitely well cheaper than buying any similar beer.
Next two are going to be single hop IPA's: simcoe and cascadian.

Also, dog bisquits are a great way to use some of the spent grains. Anyone ever made bread with it?

Are you sure it is birds eating? Birds don't usually feed at night (other than predators like owls). Rats sure do though.
