Rows, shrugs, farmers walk, deads... you'd be surprised how fast you need to go heavy on those once you start training them.

Go take a look at the 5-150lb DB set here:

https://www.roguecanada.ca/rogue-urethane-dumbbells-new

I can get 650 pounds of calibrated steel plates, a rack, bars, tons of attachments, a bench and other misc stuff for half of that.

All depends on your goals. If you have a step in the house and a few diff sized plates kicking around - calf raises, squats are easy peasy. 45lb plates do have handles for walks while shrugging up and the down that one step.  You can get weight harnesses at mec. Sizeable gains will take longer without a full set of machines and free weights but your foundation should technically last longer.

Or until they stop updating the firmware.  hehe.  As a space-saving freak I do like how it just bolts to the wall, but I would just use the screen to watch Office reruns.  Probably without working out.

Only have until the end of 2020 until The Office is off Netflix.

I found Craiglist to be the same price as just buying new weights from the fitness depot.

I'm not sure how often you're in Vancouver, but from their website it looks promising that you can find what you need for ~$1/lb.

120lb dumbells come in cheaper than that: https://www.fitnessdepot.ca/B11BCB0907600/northern-lights-rubber-hex-dumbbell-120lbs-dbhr120.html

Give them a call and see if they have any 150lb dumbells and what they go for.

Edit: I have no idea if they have urethane weights, this might be walmart quality

Edit 2: looks like they don't have rubberized 150lb dumbells: https://www.fitnessdepot.ca/B11BCB0907600/northern-lights-fixed-cast-steel-dumbbells-150lbs-df150.html

RM could also stop being such a princess and work out like Rocky.  Maybe offer to push people up Fromme.

what's your thoughts on resistance bands for hypertrophy?

Hypertrophy is nice, but I'm more concerned about being strong... so that said, when linear periodization (the basics of getting stronger) stop working, you start using different programs to get stronger.  That includes using bands and chains with your barbells and plates.

Using bands alone will only be good for a few weeks at best..

Both get you stronger, but one form of training gets you stronger stronger where the other gets you bigger.
